Thousand Oaks - In the mid 1950s the Janss Investment Company created Thousand Oaks as a master planned city located in the northwestern area of the Greater Los Angeles Area. Named after the many oak trees in the community, Thousand Oaks is one of the most populated parts of the Conejo Valley. Beginning with about 1,000 custom home lots, 2,000 single family homes, a shopping center, and an 200 acre industrial park, Thousand Oaks has grown to have a population estimated at 127, 548 and covers a total of 55 square miles. In 2006, Thousand Oaks was named one of the best places to live by Money Magazine.
